Where the New Forest meets the Solent is the lovely Georgian market town of Lymington, perhaps best known as a world class sailing resort. The town boasts two large marinas that often play host to visiting sailors from across the channel as well as from other parts of the UK. There’s also a car ferry operating between Lymington and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.
The town itself is a delightful mix of period houses and shops, narrow streets and waterside activities. There’s a lovely old cobbled road that takes you down to the Old Town Quay where you can see the fishing boats unloading their catches, as well as some of the most beautiful leisure craft cruising by.
Every Saturday, there’s an open air market in the High Street, that some say dates back to the 14th century, which is well worth a visit
Lymington is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is surrounded by the ancient woodland of the New Forest. It was in 1079 that William the Conqueror named his new hunting forest ‘nova foresta’ and it’s been known as the New Forest ever since.
Hotel TerraVina is one of the most stylish luxury hotels near Lymington and is well worth considering as your base if you’re visiting Lymington or the surrounding area.
