Includes overnight stay, foraging experience, extra special dinner and full English breakfast.

After arriving at Exbury gardens (via own transport), you will meet foraging expert, John Wright, in the tea rooms at 10.00am.

John is your guide for the day and will give you an introduction to the Gardens. He will lead  you on a guided search of the glorious woods and grassland, looking for wild fungi, discussing every species found and showing you how to tell  the edible from the poisonous varieties.

After a break for lunch at 12.30pm, you will be joined by ,George Blogg, the  Executive Head Chef at Hotel TerraVina. George will talk about his speciality dishes, their preparation and many unique uses of fungi, herbs and flavourings.

After lunch you will return to the gardens to explore a little further. Once your foraging adventure is complete, you are free to make your own way the short distance to Hotel TerraVina. The hotel is12.5 miles away and approx 35 minutes by car. You can check in and  relax before meeting later for dinner.

Enjoy a delicious four course extra special dinner, served in the private dining  room, prepared by George and his team. George, will be using some of the fare foraged during the day, with wines matched by Gerard Basset, OBE, World Champion Sommelier 2010 and his wine team.

Guests will be seated together and John Wright will host the dinner and discuss his “finds of the day”, in a labelled "show and tell".

After a peaceful night’s rest, enjoy a hearty full English breakfast before departing from the hotel.

John Wright Foraging Expert.

John Wright has taken over 500 mushroom forays over a twenty year period. John’s favourite foraging ground is the New Forest and surrounding area. It has one of the largest number of species of fungi in Europe and is the perfect place to learn about these fascinating organisms.

John Wright has written three books on foraging for River Cottage, covering Mushrooms, Seashore and Hedgerow. He has three more books commissioned – another in the River Cottage series on home-brewing to be published in September, one on the Latin names of organisms and one on the history of the hedgerow. He leads around forty forays each year looking for mushrooms and for things to eat by the seashore and presents lectures on foraging and other topics. John Wright is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and a member of the British Mycological Society and lives in West Dorset.
